ATSCo/Silicon win an injunction against Jobserve
Jobserve have confirmed that Silicon have obtained a temporary injunction forcing them to take adverts from ATSCO members
In an email to UKTECH Robbie Cowling of Jobserve states:
They have claimed I am using a market dominant position to threaten these agencies and monopolies the recruitment market place.
Jobserve has always supported the agencies and has expected a bit of support from them in return. For this reason we have chosen not to do business with an agency if it becomes a competitor.
With the ATSCO site we were planning on taking a similar approach, though not because of the betrayal, but because I believe it is fundamentally wrong for a group of agencies to run a job board and I question their motives for doing so.
I believe this so passionately that I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and lose a large chunk of my revenue. ATSCO members claim to possess 50% of the IT jobs in the UK, that would be half my revenue gone. But just because it's painful doesn't make it wrong and I believe my success is down to playing with a straight bat and doing what I believe to be right.
It is hard to see why a commercial organisation should be forced to take advertising from their competitor. The customers of Jobserve, the contractor and perm candidate are not being prevented from visiting other sites.
Ann Swain the CEO of ATSCO clearly will be hoping that the cheap Jobs board will drive membership numbers up. Looking at the tone of Robbie Cowling's email, she may have miscalculated.
