Contractor demands to know what subsidy IR35 is supposed to remove
OK... So, we have -
=======================================
However, this was never a justification for continuing a hidden subsidy for workers who choose to set up their engagements in a particular way. The loss to the taxpayer from avoidance through service companies placed a burden on other tax and NICs payers which was also damaging to competitiveness.
========================================
What loss to the tax payer is this then exactly?... Subsidy - WHAT SUBSIDY IS THIS!!!!!????? Oh, and while we're on the subject - what is a service company exactly?... My company is a Limited company. There is no such thing as a service company - but hey - I don't really have to tell you this now, do I.
I must have been kidnapped by aliens or something, because the fact of the matter is - since I set up my own business, I now pay far more tax (more than double actually) than I used to as an employee of another company... I have the pay slips and bank statements to prove it. To the tune of thousands of pounds. Likewise, the same is true for a very high percentage of my counterparts who also run their own businesses in the IT Sector in direct competition with the likes of Andersons, EDS, Logica etc...
(By the way, we can probably do a better job as well - happy to quote you a fixed price...)
So, Graham - my challenge to you is to make your cabinet colleagues see some bloody common sense. If we have to return to being employed because of NL stupidity, your man in the treasury will have LESS money... Did you get that... LESS money. If we are driven abroad - you will receive NO money... not a single penny. Surely you can see this. My daughter (who is 4 years old) can understand this, so what is your problem. By the way, you can spare me the BS about it levelling the playing field blah blah blah. Since by now, even you must agree that this is utterly flawed. The thing is, I don't think you will see a mass exit just yet a while - I believe people are waiting to see what actually happens. BUT - believe me, people will leave - I will leave, and I will take my family with me.
So, come on Graham, cut the crap and DO SOMETHING, while you still can and while this country still has a respectable software industry. Or, are you lot going to be damned forever in history as the party that destroyed IT in the UK. It would be laughable - but this is my livelihood you people are playing with. I don't take kindly to that. By the way, just so you are under no illusions, let me take off your rose coloured spectacles - I never voted Labour at the last election - I still have vivid memories of that nice Mr Callaghan and his cronies. For what it's worth I would rather be strung up by the toe nails over the flames of hell than put my X anywhere near a labour candidate's name.
