Contractor in Holland asks if MPs would pay NI on their dividends
No wonder we have lost all respect for politicians. This one appears to have no concept of contractors' employment terms compared with that of employees.
I WAS an employee of a big bank in the UK. I got paid holidays. I was paid to go on training courses. Most significantly I received shares in the bank, which paid dividends ON WHICH I PAID 25% TAX AND DID NOT HAVE TO PAY NI "CONTRIBUTIONS".
NOW, I AM a contractor. I do not get paid holidays. I pay to go on training courses, plus I do not get paid whilst I am away from work. Presumably if I were to receive a dividend from shares in my own UK company, the UK government would expect me to pay NI as well as tax on them.

Come off it Government, you have to be seen to be fair in order to govern. So, can we now assume that everyone will get paid holidays, paid training courses and will pay tax and NI on all their earnings, including share dividends? I'll send Tony the bill for my holidays and training courses then.
Am I right in thinking you poor employees/contractors in the UK actually PAY someone in the Government to write this drivel? Why on earth do you choose to live in that backward island when there are hundreds of civilised places around the world?
(I'm in Holland - a far superior environment to live in. Trains are plentiful, very cheap and run on time, the countryside is kept beautiful, they don't get flooding, cyclists are respected and not mown down, each small town has a hospital (that is a place with beds where you get fixed up if you're sick) etc, etc).
