Indian association advises UK on visas

An Indian IT trade body will be advising the Government on skill shortages and its policy on fast track visas.

The India Business Group (IBG) has been appointed to the Work Permit UK's IT Skills Panel. They join a range of UK organisations who advise the Government on the level and type of skill shortages in IT and if overseas workers are required to meet that gap.

The appointment of the India Business Group has met with criticism from some other members of the panel.

The Home Office told UKTECH: "Their members include UK-based employers who use visas. That was the basis on which the offer to join the Skills Panel was made and accepted."

India Business Group

The India Business Group is an informal group created at the initiative of the High Commission of India at the end of 1999. It brings together senior executives and professionals of Indian companies in the UK, and also leading consultants and solicitors from British firms who advise clients on doing business in India and the UK.
