LloydsTSB email scam warning
Customers of Lloyds TSB have been warned to ignore a fraudulent email asking them to confirm personal banking details, in the latest of a number of email scams targeted at bank account holders.
The rogue email contains a link that when accessed displays a screen asking customers to enter their Internet banking user ID, password and memorable information in full.
Though the email looks authentic, it has been sent randomly and is not targeted at Lloyds TSB customers or internet bank users. The bank is hoping to close down the fraudulent site as soon as possible.
Lloyds TSB customers are not the first to be targeted by fraudsters in this way - a practice known as 'phishing'. Other High Street banks have been hit in the past, including Barclays and NatWest.
Lloyds TSB said this weekend that anyone receiving the email should immediately forward it to online@lloydstsb.co.uk
A statement from Lloyds TSB said: "These are not genuine emails. Lloyds TSB never send emails asking for this information to be recorded in this way. If you receive such an email, please do not respond."
There has been a recent increase in fraudulent emails purporting to be from someone they are not, many indicating to the recipient that they have viruses. Simon Banton, UKTECH's webmaster, outlined how to 'spot' these rogue emails and not to believe they are 'From' who they appear to be 'From' in an article here: You've Got Viruses!
