Reader proposes a PCG Ltd agency to guide contracts and clients

Having had a little success (well agreed in principle at least) with the PCG's Portal facility, I too find that a PCG Ltd Agency (or whatever) for me, would be ideal.

This would not remove the problem of IR35 overnight, nor would I think for a moment that the PCG Ltd would create 'false contracts' that would seem to be IR35 exempt - but which would not actually reflect the working situation. The benefit would actually be in the guidance that the PCG could bring with reference to contracts, and indeed could bring about a more visible B2B contract facility (charged as a one off rather than an hourly/daily rate percentage). The PCG could also advise clients of the 'new thinking' with respect to contractor status and working practices - rather than the unfortunate scare-mongering that some of the larger existing agencies have been doing.

I have no doubt - given the veracity of the team - that the PCG could make an excellent job of such a business. Unfortunately the PCG is currently operated as a non profit making organisation. To make the change into a business operation, would then invalidate that status. The bonus from our (PCG members) point of view would be that it would be run for the members by the members.

Any decision of this kind would effectively have to be nominated and put forward to a vote. But at the end of the day, who would pay for this? Most of the work done on behalf of the PCG has been in the most part voluntary, to change this would bring about the need for a number of PCG employees with varying skills, and, to even think about setting this up is a non-trivial task in its own right.

On a personal note: I would love to see this kind of arrangement arise from within the PCG. I just don't know:- a) If it is generally wanted.

b) How it would all come together.

I am extremely grateful for the work that the PCG has put in on my behalf as it stands now - anything more would just be a bonus.
