Times says IR35 reaches well beyond IT contractors

An article in The Times (Saturday, 11th November) looks at how IR35 looks set to affect other professionals outside of IT, who use personal service companies.

The article points the finger at the Government for 'masking' the introduction of IR35 as a "tax on IT contractors" without explaining properly how other PSCs may be affected. In addition, the article highlights the uncertainty of the new rules which will according to Inland Revenue estimates affect 90,000 businesses.

The PCG legal challenge is mentioned, as is the irony of the Government trying to attract IT specialists into the UK - while UK IT and engineering practitioners are leaving because of the uncertainty and the new rules.
