Working from a rented home
If our new landlord objects to us registering our limited company at the rented house, what is our best alternative?
My partner and I are about to move to another rented home, taking our limited company with us ... only the new landlord evidently objects to us using the new house as our business address (he is aware of the nature of the business and does not object to the working-from-home as such, just the registration/official address aspect). The question is: what is the best way to proceed?
Key facts:
- The business is an IT consultancy with almost all of the work happening via the web.
- There is very little incoming post, except for official stuff such as tax notices, occasional items from customers and the inevitable junkmail.
- I don't believe there are any planning law implications since there is no impact on the character of the house as a private residence (e.g. no machinery other than a computer, no visitors or clients).
- The home office would be a spare bedroom that will have the computer, phone, books etc. and will also be used for hobbies etc. (i.e. not a totally dedicated office area).
- We do not intend to reclaim any rental, heating or other costs from the business except for a dedicated business phone line.
Options I am considering:
- Register the business address at our accountant (assuming he agrees)
- Rent a P.O. box and use that as the official address
- Register the business at a relative's house
- Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Gary :-)
