Times - concern over Treasury tax review

The Times suggests that fears are growing among business groups over the Government’s plans to overhaul the tax system for small businesses and the self-employed.

The Government will produce a discussion document in line with the next Pre Budget Report later in the year and some professionals believe worse is to come for small businesses.

Tax expert, Francesca Lagerberg said that the review had probably been prompted by the failure of IR35.

And Anne Redston, tax partner at Ernst & Young is reported as saying that the Chancellor’s concerns about tax leakage were partly the result of his own generosity in previous years and that the overall aim of the review is to reduce the disparities in tax treatment between employees and the self-employed.
