Editorial and corrections policy
UKTECH is a news record. Its purpose is to report what happened to the UK's IT contracting industry and the rules that govern it, accurately and in a form that can be relied on years later. This policy sets out how that is done.
Sourcing
New articles are written from primary sources wherever one exists: legislation, consultation documents, tribunal and court judgments, official statistics, the published statements of the bodies concerned and the reports of named surveys. Where a fact comes from another publication, the publication is named. Quotations are reproduced as published and attributed to the speaker by name and role. The newsdesk does not invent quotations, does not attribute views to people who have not expressed them, and does not report figures it cannot trace to a source. Where a claim rests on the newsdesk's own reading of the evidence, the article says so.
Dating
Every article carries the date on which the events it describes took place or were reported, not the date it was written. Articles written after the event to complete the record are dated to the event and written from the sources available for it; they do not import knowledge of what happened later, except where the article says so.
The archive
The articles from 2000 onwards are the original reporting of the period. In 2026 the archive was edited for the record: encoding errors and broken formatting were repaired, spelling and grammar were corrected, dead links and link furniture were removed, and headlines that had been generic were replaced with headlines that describe the article. Nothing was added to the substance of any article, and no view was changed. Where a date or fact in an original article was found to be wrong and could be verified, it was corrected and the article marked as modified.
Corrections
Errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed. A material correction is made in the text and the article's modified date is updated; a correction that changes the sense of a report is noted at the foot of the article. Requests should go to newsdesk@uktech.org with the article, the error and the source for the correct fact.
Independence
UKTECH is published by Videowire Limited. It carries no advertising and no sponsored content. Contributors and experts quoted are identified by their affiliation. Press releases are reported as press releases.
Use of automated tools
The newsdesk uses software to check spelling, formatting and structure, to search sources and to draft. Every article is reviewed by an editor before publication, and the standards above apply regardless of how a draft was produced.
